"Physical literacy can be described as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life."
— IPLA, 2017
At The Heritage School, Rohini we believe every child deserves the motivation, confidence, and competence to enjoy movement for life. Rooted in the principles of physical literacy, our Physical Education program is designed to be inclusive of every child, regardless of ability, and to nurture far more than physical skill alone.
We help students grow across four interconnected domains:
Our goal is not simply to produce skilled athletes, but to cultivate the values and habits that carry students toward a lifetime of active, balanced living. In this spirit, success is measured not only by medals and podiums, but by our students' ongoing motivation to move, their confidence to try, and their capacity to lead healthy, fulfilling lives well beyond their years at Heritage.
A Progressive Journey in Movement
We believe that movement is more than just physical activity — it is an expression of discipline, resilience and self-discovery. With a structured, three-tiered intervention, we provide students with a progressive and personalised journey that encourages exploration, builds foundational skills and ultimately leads to mastery.
Early Exploration
Preschool – Grade III
This stage is where the seeds of movement are sown. Young learners engage in playful, non-competitive activities that develop motor skills through our self-designed curriculum. Running, jumping and throwing are not just physical acts but joyful expressions of freedom and self-discovery. Here, personal growth takes precedence, setting the stage for a lifetime of active living.
Holistic Development Through Sports
Grades IV – VII
As students progress, movement transforms into skill, strategy and self-awareness. A diverse range of sports — Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Health & Conditioning — become mediums for teamwork, discipline and resilience. Without the pressure of competition, students explore their interests, refining physical, social and cognitive abilities while learning the true essence of sportsmanship.
Gaining Mastery
Grades VIII – XII
At this stage, students channel their passion into dedicated practice. Specialising in a chosen sport, they refine techniques, understand game strategies and develop leadership by mentoring peers. Through structured independent learning, they take charge of their growth, fostering a mindset of continuous improvement and a lifelong commitment to fitness.
Exploring Opportunities
Sports-Specific Enrichment Program (SSEP)
For those who seek mastery beyond the curriculum, SSEP provides an opportunity for specialised training under expert guidance. Conducted in the morning hours, this voluntary program allows students to sharpen their skills and experience the thrill of structured athletic progression.
Team Development Program (TDP)
True excellence in sports is not an individual pursuit — it is the spirit of a team moving as one. School teams train rigorously under TDP, preparing for competitions that test both skill and character, instilling confidence, discipline and humility.
Competitive Exposure
We form school teams across U-12, U-14, U-17 and U-19 categories. Our teams compete in zonal tournaments, CBSE championships, prestigious inter-school competitions and state and national-level championships for elite athletes.
Where Movement Meets Meaning
At The Heritage School, sports and physical education are not confined to the field — they are woven into the fabric of our philosophy. Every sprint, every game and every challenge serves as a lesson in resilience, leadership and perseverance. Through structured training, competitive exposure, and holistic learning experiences, we shape individuals who carry the spirit of movement beyond school — into life itself.
